Hawley urges Chinese Truck DOJ probe

First in Fox – Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Asked the Department of Justice on Thursday to investigate a autonomous Chinese ownership company, one of the largest in the United States, quoting complaints that had shared ownership data and other technologies sensitive to entities related to the State in Beijing.

The letter, sent to the United States Attorney General, PAM Bondi and exclusively previewed by Fox News Digital, calls on the Department of Justice to open a formal research at the Tusimple Holdings autonomous truck company, a Chinese property company and one of the largest autonomous truck companies in the United States.

In it, Hawley cites the recent Wall Street Journal reports, which claims that Tusimple “systematically shared property data, the source code and autonomous driving technologies” with entities linked to the Chinese state, which he described as “blatant inconsideration” of the 2022 national security contract with the foreign investment committee in the United States or CFIUS.

“These reports also revealed communications from Tusimple staff in China calling for the sending of sensitive Nvidia AI chips and detailed records showing” deep and long -term links “with Chinese manufacturers affiliated with the military,” said Hawley.

He said that so far, Tusimple “has not faced serious consequences” for sharing North -American intellectual property with China, despite having continued to share data with China after signing a national security agreement with the United States government in 2022, which was applied by the United States Investment Committee in the United States.

“If reports on Tusimple are accurate, they represent only a violation of the export law, but also a breach of national confidence and a direct threat to North -American technological leadership,” said Hawley.

“The American people deserve to know how and why they allowed a supposedly American company to serve as a conduct for the transfer of sensitive innovations to the Chinese Communist Party,” he added.

The letter asks Bondi and the Department of Justice to carry out certain measures to investigate the company’s actions, as stated by the recent reports, including the research of whether Tusimple provided protected information to any Chinese -based entity and which activities were covered by the company’s national security agreement with CFIUS, it reached more than two years ago.

Hawley also asked Bondi what actions, if any, has taken the DOJ so far to make sure that Bot Auto, a new Texas autonomous vehicle company, personalized by many old Tusimple employees, “does not participate in similar behavior.”

According to the Wall Street Journal report, Tusimple shares helped shape the new regulations of the Department of Commerce, which blocked the sale of linked to the Internet and different components with links to China. According to the report, a CFIUS research determined that Tusimple’s technological sharing did not violate the official national security agreement, but the company was fined by other violations and finally paid a liquidation of $ 6 million.

The letter comes when Hawley, who presides over the Senate’s judicial committee sub -Committee on crime and terrorism, has appeared as one of the most vocal critics of the Senate of the Chinese Communist Party, especially in terms of the conduct of certain North -American companies and the sharing of certain intellectual properties.
